Senna

Senna is a moving documentary film about Ayrton Senna and his rise to F1 fame and sadly short lived career.  Comprised entirely from old F1 footage and interviews with his friends and family at the time,  you see the charming and charismatic Senna in all stages of his short life, the feisty Brazilian endeared us all.

I was a big fan of F1 the years around Senna's death, watching every race, no matter what time it was.  Those were the golden days of racing for me.  Those household names of Mansell, Prost and Senna were always on my lips.  Senna's dramatic death came just 1 day after anotehr drive and compadre Roland Ratzenburger died in training on the same in Imola track in Italy: Senna was the last driver to die at the wheel of a F1 car.

His death was quick and relatively painless.  His body barely touched, the steering wheel post made the fatal blow to his head that killed him just minutes later. His death was also the death of F1 in my eyes at the time. He was just 34 years old.  I never watched another race again, even after all these years.

I found it hard to watch at times, welling up constantly as it bought back lots of feelings of times gone by.  It got me excited about Formula 1 again.  But I still won't watch another race.

Even if you aren't fan of racing or have no idea who Ayrton Senna was, I can guarantee you this great film will make you smile, make you laugh and make you cry at the loss of a lovely man's life.
